Background on LuWas
LuWas was developed on behalf of the German Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) and serves to determine both emission and immission levels caused by shipping traffic on inland and maritime waterways. The software combines emission models for inland and seagoing vessels as well as for road traffic with a PROKAS-based dispersion module.
The pollutants considered include: NOx, NO₂, PM₁₀, PM₂.₅, benzene, soot, SO₂, CO, hydrocarbons and CO₂.
LuWas consists of the following modules:
- Emission module for inland shipping
- Emission module for seagoing vessels
- Emission module PROKAS-E for road traffic
- Dispersion module PROKAHN
Results are visualised within the integrated GIS interface, which allows users to modify input data, analyse calculated emissions and concentrations, and export results in various formats.
Contents of the Training
- Introduction to the structure and functionality of LuWas
- Application of the emission modules for inland and seagoing vessels
- Calculation of road traffic emissions with PROKAS-E
- Performing and evaluating dispersion calculations with PROKAHN
- Visualisation and analysis of results in the GIS interface
- Import and export of data (Shape files, LASAT interface)
Participation & Information
The training course is aimed at professionals from engineering and planning consultancies, authorities, research institutions and waterway administrations who work on emission and immission assessments for shipping traffic.
