Introduction

The training provides a practical introduction to the fundamentals and application of dispersion modelling in accordance with Annex 2 of the TA Luft. Participants receive a sound overview of the methodological and technical requirements as well as the legal framework, along with concrete guidance on the correct execution, assessment, and documentation of dispersion calculations in the context of immission control law.

The aim is to build confidence in working with dispersion modelling—from the selection of suitable input parameters to the robust interpretation of results in permitting and assessment procedures.

Background Information on the TA Luft – Annex 2

Annex 2 of the TA Luft sets out the key requirements for conducting dispersion modelling to assess ambient air pollutant immissions. It forms the technical basis for modelling the dispersion of air pollutants within permitting, modification, and monitoring procedures.
Dispersion modelling in accordance with Annex 2 TA Luft serves, among other things, to:

  • assess immission loads caused by installations requiring a permit
  • evaluate immissions in the vicinity of existing or planned installations
  • assess immission loads from surrounding installations in the context of preparing development plans

Contents of the Training

  • Fundamentals of dispersion modelling in accordance with TA Luft (2021), including relevant regulations and sources of knowledge
  • Assessment bases for immissions
  • Requirements for input data for the TA Luft model AUSTAL (emissions, plume rise, terrain, roughness, meteorology)
  • Excursus on emission determination
  • Excursus on determining stack heights in accordance with Section 5.5 TA Luft (optionally also possible as an in-depth module)
  • Evaluation and interpretation of calculation results
  • Plausibility checks and common sources of error
  • Requirements for documentation and traceability
  • Practical examples from permitting procedures and expert assessments

Participation & Information

The training is aimed at engineering and expert consultancies, authorities, and specialist planners who deal with dispersion modelling in accordance with the TA Luft or who are required to assess such calculations.
The training offered consists of a one-day basic course. We would also be happy to offer you individual (multi-day) intensive training courses or specific topic-focused modules, e.g. an advanced module on determining stack heights in accordance with the TA Luft. Please contact us.

All details regarding registration can be found on our training page.
