IntroductionThe WinMISKAM training course provides practical instruction on how to apply the microscale flow and dispersion model MISKAM within the WinMISKAM user interface – from model fundamentals to reliable result interpretation. |
Background on MISKAM / WinMISKAM
MISKAM is a three-dimensional, non-hydrostatic flow and dispersion model for calculating wind fields and concentrations in built-up areas. Buildings are explicitly represented as block structures; the basis is formed by the 3D equations of motion and the advection–diffusion equation.
WinMISKAM provides an intuitive, GIS-based interface (DE/EN), generates configuration and control files, visualises results (2D/3D) and additionally supports, among others:
- PROKAS_E (emissions)
- NOx conversion (Romberg et al. / Düring et al.)
- ParaView interface
- Import/creation of building catalogues
Contents of the Training
- Model fundamentals: flow, turbulence, dispersion in urban areas
- Project setup in WinMISKAM: domain, grids (including non-equidistant), boundary conditions
- Geodata & catalogues: background maps, building/road data, line sources
- Chemistry: NO/NO₂ conversion (Romberg/Düring)
- Simulation & evaluation: annual means
- Visualisation: 2D/3D views (optional: ParaView export)
- Practical exercises with realistic examples
- Optional: emissions with PROKAS_E
Participation & Information
The training course is aimed at engineering and planning consultancies, authorities and research teams seeking a reliable assessment of microscale flow and air pollution issues.
